Predation is an Indianapolis-based documentary project and collaboration between Andrea Jain of Indiana University, Indianapolis and Vinnie Manganello of Chroma Productions as well as Jain’s current book project.

We offer a socialist critique of late capitalism with a focus on the normalized violence against animals in popular culture and mainstream politics.

This is a double-pronged project. The first prong critiques the scripts of pop culture and politics—from Hollywood films to political campaigns—that contain concerns about animals and their moral value within triumphant capitalist stories that commodify, control, and even destroy them.

The second prong examines how activists, on the other hand, turn their worshipful attention to the same multispecies ethical issues through (non-white liberal) plant based food practices and sanctuary farms that resist capitalist models of the family and community. We ask how they grieve the losses that capitalism wreaks, imagine futures for multispecies communities, and provide insights into the experience of being marginalized and what grief and resistance look like in this late capitalist moment.
